Gastrocnemius

The superficial, two-headed muscle of the calf; enables rising onto the toes.

Function

Ankle plantar flexion; also flexes the knee.

Origin

Medial and lateral condyles of the femur.

Insertion

Calcaneus (heel bone) via the Achilles tendon.
