Supraspinatus

Part of the rotator cuff; initiates raising the arm out to the side.

Function

Initiates abduction (0–15°) and stabilizes the humeral head.

Origin

Supraspinous fossa of the scapula.

Insertion

Greater tubercle of the humerus (tuberculum majus).
