Serratus Anterior

The 'boxer's muscle' along the ribs; anchors the scapula to the rib cage.

Function

Scapular protraction and upward rotation.

Origin

Lateral surface of ribs 1–8 (or 9).

Insertion

Medial border of the scapula (its anterior surface).
